QR code questions, answered.
Everything about creating, customizing, tracking and using QR codes — jump straight to what you need.
Getting started
A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode that stores data — a link, contact details, Wi-Fi credentials — in a grid of squares. A phone camera reads it and instantly acts on the data.
Yes. Unlimited QR codes, no account, no watermark. You own what you create.
No. Create and download codes immediately without signing up.
Links, text, email, phone, SMS, WhatsApp, Skype, Zoom, Wi-Fi, vCard, events, locations, PayPal and Bitcoin — 14 types.
Creating & customizing
Yes — place a logo in the center. Keep it under ~20% of the area and use higher error correction so it stays scannable.
Yes. Set foreground and background to your brand. Keep strong contrast; the scan-health meter warns you if a choice risks readability.
PNG for screens, SVG for sharp scaling and print, PDF for print-ready handoff, plus Lottie .json from the Animated QR studio.
At least one-tenth of the scanning distance. A code read from 2m should be ~20cm wide. Use SVG or PDF for print.
Yes — the Animated QR studio creates scannable codes that animate and exports them as Lottie .json.
Static, dynamic & tracking
Static encodes the destination directly — permanent but not editable. Dynamic encodes a redirect you control, so you can change the destination and track scans.
The image doesn't track. Point your code at a tracked link (a short link or UTM URL) and your analytics records each visit.
With a tracked destination: total and unique scans, time, approximate location, device and OS, and which placement drove each scan.
Append parameters before generating, e.g. ?utm_source=qr&utm_medium=poster&utm_campaign=spring.
Business use cases
Menus, Wi-Fi sharing, contactless payments, vCards, packaging, tickets, reviews, social growth and print-ad tracking.
Yes — they bridge print and digital and make campaigns measurable. Send scanners to a focused mobile page and track conversions.
Yes — PayPal codes open checkout, Bitcoin codes encode your wallet. Display payment codes only on surfaces you control.
Shelf-edge info, reviews, loyalty sign-ups and scan-to-pay all bring online richness into the store.
Reliability & security
Usually low contrast, too-small print, a missing quiet zone, an oversized logo, or a blurry print. Test on several phones.
Generating and scanning legitimate codes is safe. The risk is malicious redirects — check the URL preview and watch for stickers over real codes.
Static codes never expire. Dynamic codes work as long as the redirect service and destination stay live.
Up to a point — error correction recovers from dirt, tears or a center logo. Higher levels (Q/H) tolerate more.
